Court of King's Bench - Manitoba Courts
The Honourable Marianne Rivoalen, a judge of Her Majesty’s Court of Queen’s Bench for Manitoba (Family Division), has been appointed Associate Chief Justice of Her Majesty’s Court of Queen’s Bench for Manitoba (Family Division). She will replace Madam Justice A.L. Douglas. The appointment will take effect on May 22, 2015.
Madam Justice Rivoalen was appointed a judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench for Manitoba (Family Division) in 2005. Prior to her appointment, she was a Senior Counsel and Team Leader of Aboriginal Law Services with the Department of Justice Canada in 2004 as well as the Indian Residential School Litigation Counsel in 2003. She was a litigation lawyer with Aikins, MacAulay & Thorvaldson in Winnipeg (1998-2003) appearing before all levels of courts and administrative tribunals in Manitoba. She was also an arbitrator with the Manitoba Labour Board (2001-2005), Deputy Chief Commissioner of the Residential Tenancies Commission in Winnipeg (1993-2003), and a litigation lawyer with Pitlabo & Hoskin in Winnipeg (1989-1997).
Madam Justice Rivoalen was Chair of the Manitoba Court of Queen’s Bench Education Committee. She was a member of the Canadian Judicial Council Judges Technology Advisory Committee as well as a member of the Manitoba Court of Queen’s Bench Technology Committee.
She received a Bachelor of Arts from Collège Universitaire de Saint-Boniface in 1983 and a Bachelor of Laws from Université de Moncton in 1988. She was admitted to the Bar of Manitoba in 1989.
