Court of Queen's Bench enacts Proportionate Procedures Committee

Posted on September 14, 2016

The Chief Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench recently announced the creation of Proportionate Procedures Committees.  The mandate of the Committees in the Family and General Divisions respectively is to review specifically identified areas of concern and recommend (mindful of the concept of proportionality) any required changes or updates to existing rules, scheduling practices, applicable legislation and/or adjudication models attaching to the particular area of work performed by each Division.  “Proportionality” is each Committee’s fundamental reference point.  It is the view of the Court that these Committees will assist in the Court’s ongoing commitment to preserving and improving access to justice and ensuring that the Court provides a timely judicial service.
