The Distinguished Service Award is presented each year by the Manitoba Bar Association to a member of the Manitoba Bench or Bar who exemplifies the ideals of service to the legal profession and the community. As stated in the MBA's publication, Headnotes and Footnotes, Justice Steel was selected for this prestigious award "...based on her distinguished and impressive career and her many outstanding contributions, not only as a long standing member of the Manitoba judiciary, but also in the areas of legal education and volunteerism."
