The live streaming of the Manitoba Court of Appeal hearing of R v. Andrea Giesbrecht on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 can be viewed here beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Following the February 6, 2017 conviction and July 14, 2017 sentencing (both of which were live streamed) of Andrea Giesbrecht for 6 counts of disposal of the dead body of a child with intent to conceal that fact that an unknown person had been delivered of it, by unknown means contrary to Section 243 of the Criminal Code of Canada, her counsel file an appeal in the Manitoba Court of Appeal. Ms. Giesbrecht’s counsel listed nine (9) grounds of appeal dealing with the conviction and sentence. On December 12, 2018, three judges from the MB Court of Appeal (the highest level of court in Manitoba) will hear the arguments for the appeal. At the end of the arguments, the court will either provide its decision in that moment (with written reasons to follow) or reserve their decision, to be issued in writing in the near future. Decisions in the Court of Appeal are always made by an uneven number of judges as they are based on the majority. In this case, on December 12th, the panel will be made up of three judges.
