Sadie Bond appointed to the Court of Queen's Bench

OTTAWA, April 11, 2014 – The Honourable Peter MacKay, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Central Nova, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Sadie Bond, a Senior Counsel with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, Manitoba Regional Office, in Winnipeg is appointed a judge of the Court of Queen's Bench of Manitoba to replace Madam Justice B. Keyser (Winnipeg), who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of April 4, 2014.

Madam Justice Bond received a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Allison University in 1988 and a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University in 1994. She became a member of the Bar of Manitoba in 2009.  She has also been a member of the bars of Ontario, Nunavut, and the Northwest Territories.

Madam Justice Bond served as duty counsel with the Ontario Legal Aid Plan in Toronto from 1996 to 1998 and with Maureen Forestell from 1998 to 1999. She then worked as Crown counsel with the Department of Justice Canada from 1999 to 2006 and as Associate Chief Federal Prosecutor with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, Northwest Territories Regional Office, from 2006 to 2009. Madam Justice Bond has been Senior Counsel with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, Manitoba Regional Office, since 2009.

Madam Justice Bond is a past-president of the Law Society of the Northwest Territories and has served on several committees, including Discipline and Admissions. She has been a member of the Manitoba Court of Queen's Bench Rules Committee since 2013.

This appointment is effective immediately.
