Allan Dueck appointed to the Court of Queen's Bench

OTTAWA, May 12, 2014 – The Honourable Peter MacKay, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Central Nova, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Allan D. Dueck, a lawyer with Mercier Dueck in Winnipeg, is appointed a judge of the Court of Queen's Bench of Manitoba, Family Division, to replace Mr. Justice D.D. Yard, who resigned effective April 14, 2014.

Mr. Justice Dueck received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Manitoba in 1996 and was admitted to the Bar of Manitoba in 1997. He joined Mercier Dueck in 2005. Prior to that, he practised with Gould Gosner from 1997 to 2005. His practice focus was family law.

Mr. Justice Dueck has been a guest speaker for various organizations, including the Manitoba Community Legal Education Association for recent immigrants to Manitoba, and Manitoba Probation Services on family law issues. He has been a regular volunteer at Dakota Collegiate and George McDowell Community School.

This appointment is effective immediately.
